A Photography Diary

What is Whitstable like? People ask me about living in a small town- and this is a quick reply. I enjoy being by the sea with a wide expanse of sky, changing clouds and many sunny days. In the last few months there have been Open Gardens, Whitstable Biennale and Satellite, Hutstock and Oyster Festivals and an Arts, Crafts and Vintage Trail. Everchanging light and colours, visitors, friends, talented artists and creatives. Exhibitions, Community events, cafes, pubs and seasonal shop window displays. Tower Hill Tea gardens, Tankerton slopes and Whitstable Castle often have events and fun days. Great musicians, Morris Dancers performing, gatherings on the beach, an occasional bonfire, hardworking refuse collectors and beach clean volunteers are often flat out keeping the town clean. The busy Harbour market, boats, demonstrations, cement works, beach huts and riots of colour are just a few of the things that keep me entertained and stop the camera going rusty. It’s not perfect and has problems like many other small towns but a photographic record reminds me of the positive things I enjoy about living here.
