Open or Closed?

Looking back through photos documenting Lockdown in Whitstable, I found George’s sign cancelling the Residents meeting until further notice on March 18th, 2020 -and it was the only time I have seen Brett Cement Works shut down. It made me think about all the other local businesses which opened, closed and are starting to open again -or have permanently gone.

As April approaches, trees and plants are springing back to life, graffiti on the railway walkway has been painted over and shops are dusting down their windows. Events at Whitstable Castle will start again and the Tea Garden will reopen.

COVID -19 has affected people in many different ways -but when the sun shines it does help spread a much needed feeling of optimism.
